Self-confidence, self-image, and the belief in yourself are all intimately connected with each other.
In the Bible it says “If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth.”
What does that mean in practical terms though?
I can’t jump off a cliff and expect to land safely at the bottom.
But I can learn how to use a parachute, learn how to handle circumstances, learn how to have confidence and competency in whatever area I choose to set my goals.
A lot of people want the self-confidence, but they don’t want a dose of the real world along with it.
In the real world, there’s no such thing as something for nothing.
I don’t care what your favorite politician promissed at election time.
One of the best ways to build your self-confidence is to simply make a plan – a step, by step, well formed plan of what it is you want.
There’s an old saying “How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time!”
Someone else added to that “And you sell tickets to the dinner!” meaning that you take the task, and you use your available resources to get others involved in ways where they also get something of benefit AND you also get what you want.
A lot of guys want more self-confidence with women, for example. One of the ways to have more self-confidence with women is to simply go get some skills that help you create good feelings with women that those women can’t find anywhere else.
I learned that one the hard way. I was expecting GOD to just zap the ones I was interested in so they’d fall in love with me.
Well, see, the interesting thing is that as you go DO something in the real world to gain confidence in your abilities to communicate, you start to notice that all people everywhere have patterns of how they think, feel, and act.
And once you know the formulas, then you have basic confidence that you can get what it is you want in life.
If I follow the formula, I’m pretty sure I can bake a cake. Some of them might come out better than others, some might not taste good, others might taste really good, but as long as I know cake-baking formulas, I can have a fairly high degree of self-confidence in my ability to bake a cake.
Some people make things too complicated for themselves.
They see a huge, insurmountable project, and they’re overwhelmed by it.
Break the project down in to smaller steps, smaller goals – like baking one cake at a time.
Anybody can do that.
Then as you gain more skill, you get faster, you get more efficient, you start to combine ingredients in ways others might not have thought of, and soon you have feedback on your growing skill level.
It’s the same in any area of life you want to improve your self-confidence.
And, by the way, even if it’s something you DON’T know how to do yet, if you’ve had any success at learning something that you didn’t know anything about (and we’ve ALL had that experience, many, many times!), then you can have confidence in your ability to LEARN and DO what’s important for you.
